Touring opera and ballet companies have a standard stop in Rio at the stunning Municipal Theater, which was modeled on the Paris Opera House. The theater has its own opera and ballet companies and two fine resident orchestras – the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and the Rio de Janeiro Philharmonic. They offer series of concerts here and play at smaller locations as well. Visiting orchestras and well-known performing artists appear regularly. Chic attire is the norm.
